Learn to Sail Texas

What sets us apart?

We are located in one of the most challenging sailing areas in the USA. We are serious about safety afloat. Corpus is one of the windiest coastal cities in the USA. In addition the 4th busiest Port in the USA by tonnage. With our consistently moderate winds you'll gain practical experience in handling them. Then, during the 104 class, your ready to; plan a trip, Navigate, check weather, make all preparations to get underway, negotiate with commercial ship traffic, make port in another city. Then plan the return trip to Corpus Christi the following day.

Our Winter schedule has been posted. It includes a Special Christmas Gift Certificate. It is available on our Enroll Here page Our Winter rates are reduced, as are our temperatures.

Learn to Sail Texas prefers that the ASA 101 Basic Keelboat class is taught on a relatively small, (25 foot, but can sleep 5), tiller boat with hank on sails. Learning on smaller vessels make a difference in the learning curve. Our primary training boat for advanced classes is a beautiful 33' Benetau.
Corpus Bay covers 192 square miles and unlike other bays in Texas, is primarily open water with few spoil areas. When taking a class you will have practical experience with Aids To Navigation, (ATON's, e.g. Nuns, Cans, Day Beacons). The advance classes navigate portions of the Intra Coastal Waterway,(ICW), commercial ship channel, and if time allows, we may venture into the Gulf of Mexico. Want to know more? Read what our students have to say, or look us up on Facebook or Google+,

Our monthly climate data. Average temperatures,(F) and winds,(mph) are:
Month Average High Average Low Average Winds
Nov 75 55 11.7
Dec 68 49 13.0
Jan 67 47 13.0
Feb 70 51 12.9
Mar 76 56 14.0

The Winter Solstice is fast approaching. Hard to believe but, our daylight hours are decreasing. The time change back to standard has us all complaining. Our average temperatures have cooled but comfortable when sailing. Whether its a two day basic keelboat sail training class or an adventurous; five, six or seven day combination class, we are sure you'll have a positive experience.
